Biography
Marta Lopatková holds a BA in Ethnology with a specialization in Vietnamese Studies and an MA in Ethnology from the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. During her studies, she was awarded several scholarships to pursue further training in Vietnamese studies, language, and religion at Vietnam National University in Hanoi.
She is currently an assistant at the Institute of Asian Studies and a PhD candidate in the History and Cultures of Asia and Africa programme at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.
Her research is situated at the intersection of Vietnamese studies, history, anthropology, and migration studies. She focuses on the culture, society, and intellectual history of colonial Vietnam, with particular attention to gender and the ways in which modernity was negotiated, translated, and experienced in a colonial context. Her broader interests include Vietnamese migration, transnational mobility, and the history and contemporary development of Vietnamese communities in Czechia and former Czechoslovakia. Alongside her academic work, she has extensive experience working with the Vietnamese community in the Czech non-profit sector, enabling her to combine historical and interdisciplinary research with an informed understanding of contemporary community life and public debate.
