Biography
Barbora Nováková is an assistant professor at the Institute of Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and a specialist in Vietnamese Studies. Her research spans both historical and contemporary Vietnam, with a particular focus on precolonial Vietnamese history, religion, and the Vietnamese diaspora in Czechia. Her doctoral project examined the relationship between the state and local religious beliefs under the Nguyễn dynasty.
In recent years, she has focused on the history, entrepreneurship, and social experiences of Vietnamese communities in the Czech Republic. She is currently studying Czechoslovak-Vietnamese cultural and scientific cooperation during the Cold War. Her expertise is based on long-term and regular research engagement with Vietnam, including repeated study and research stays, advanced knowledge of Vietnamese, extensive use of Vietnamese-language sources, and experience working in Vietnamese archives.
