The Center for Multidisciplinary Area Studies (CenMAS) is launching a call for applications for 6 small research grants of approximately €5,000 each. The grants are open to junior and senior researchers and Ph.D. candidates at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, who are members of the CenMAS Hub.
Researchers who are not yet members of the CenMAS Hub but whose research engages with area studies or related questions may inquire about joining the CenMAS Hub. Find out more about CenMAS Hub membership.
The grants are designed to support research that contributes to the development of interdisciplinary and collaborative area studies at the Faculty of Arts. Priority will be given to projects addressing contemporary crises, conflicts, and societal transformations, or their historical, societal, and cultural origins, in line with the research focus of the ERA-AREAS project.
Funding is primarily intended for fieldwork and related travel, but may also support data collection, archival research, research visits, and other activities directly contributing to primary research. Projects with a clear collaborative or interdisciplinary dimension, including cooperation across departments or global regions, are particularly encouraged.
Each project must include a plan for disseminating its findings, including at least one planned publication in a high-ranked peer-reviewed academic journal. Full publication requirements are specified in the call.
