The second tenure of US President Donald Trump has been marked by increased US unilateralism, assertive, or even aggressive, policies in many areas of international politics, and disregard for international law, established rules of the international order, and US allies and commitments. From the war on Iran to the abduction of the Venezuelan President Maduro and ambiguous statements on Taiwan, the USA under Trump is reshaping the international, regional and national politics. Bringing together experts on different world regions (i.e., Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East), the series of policy briefs aims to take stock of the impact of the Second Trump Presidency on politics and security around the World.

What We Are Looking For

We are interested in analytical contributions of about 1500-2000 words, excluding references, that focus on the impact of Trump’s administration on different world regions, non-EU countries, and particular issues relevant to them.

The Area Studies Policy Briefs are intended for the public audience interested in international affairs: journalists, policymakers, and the engaged non–academic public. Therefore, we are looking for analyses that are based on deep, detailed regional expertise, written in accessible language, and able to provide strong conclusions and brief recommendations.

Suggested Topics

We are specifically (but not exclusively) interested in the following topics and how they unfold in the five non-Western regions (Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East):

Who Can Apply and How

The call is open to researchers (academic staff and PhD students) of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. Please, send your abstracts of about 200 words describing your planned focus (country, region, issue and how it is impacted by the US policies of the second Trump administration) by September 30, 2026, to Klara.Nechvilova@ff.cuni.cz and Jan.Daniel@ff.cuni.cz.

Timeline, Remuneration and Public Presentation

The edited publication follows from other activities realised in the framework of CenMAS.
