The CenMAS Hub is an open platform connecting researchers in area studies and related fields across the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. It brings together regional expertise with approaches from the humanities and social sciences, creating space for joint research, methodological exchange, and new cross-departmental initiatives. Its broader aim is to strengthen multidisciplinary and comparative area studies at the Faculty.
The initial CenMAS Hub meeting took place on 9 June 2026 and brought together researchers working on topics related to area studies. Karel Kouba, Radek Buben, and Mahmoud Farag presented the vision of the Hub and the opportunities it will provide, while Markéta Morská introduced the grant support available to Hub affiliates and area studies departments. The discussion focused on possible regional sub-groups, guest speakers, shared courses, research seminars, and other joint activities. The first research seminars are planned for the autumn semester.
The Hub is open to senior and junior researchers, as well as PhD candidates at the Faculty of Arts whose work relates to area studies or relevant disciplines such as history, political science, philology, cultural studies, or the social sciences. The call for affiliation is expected to open at the end of summer 2026. Those interested in joining can contact the CenMAS team at era-areas@ff.cuni.cz.
